OUR HISTORY

Church started in May 1987 after the Lord led Pastor Kingsley to begin the ministry in London.

The first meeting was in South Norwood with a total of 8 people in attendance. By July of that year, this number grew to 25 and in January 1988 the London Baptist Association arranged for us to use a vacant church building at Arodene Road in Brixton.

In 1990, we out-grew the building at Arodene Road so we moved to the premises of Gospel Tabernacle church at Tulse Hill, where the growth continued. So in 1991 we moved to Chatsworth Baptist Church to share their facilities at the request of Reverend Peter Stevenson.

While moving from place to place, using the facilities of other Churches, we believed God to give us our own building.

In 1994, the Lord miraculously provided us with the building at 2 Thornlaw Road. After a period of conversion and renovations, we moved into the building on 16 th December 1994. We have continued to experience a steady growth and now hold 3 services.

STATEMENT OF FAITH

At TBC we receive the Scriptures as our authority in matters of faith and practice. Our understanding of Christian truth is an essential accord with the belief of the New Testament church.

We believe that the Bible is written by men who were led by the Holy Spirit. We believe that the salvation of sinners is wholly of God’s Grace through the work of God’s Son who took upon Himself our nature yet was without sin, and by His own obedience, even in death paid for our sins. He is the only saviour for men.

We believe that God is sovereign in the election and salvation of all who believe in His Son. He regenerates and saves sinners and sanctifies believers.

We believe that a local church is a congregation of Baptised believers, associated by covenant or agreement in faith and fellowship of the Gospel of Jesus Christ working to carry on God’s work and glorify His name.

We believe that baptism is the immersion (dipping) in water of a believer, in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. It is a picture of death to sin and rising to a new life in Christ. The Lord’s Supper is a memorial in which by use of bread and wine we remember the dying love of Christ. Any person who has accepted Christ as Lord and Saviour can take part.

We believe in the practical manifestations of all gifts of the Holy Spirit including the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

We believe that the end of the world is coming; that in the last day Christ will descend from heaven, and raise the dead from the grave and that a separation will take place. The unbelievers will be given to everlasting punishment and the righteous to endless joy. This judgement will fix forever the final state of men in heaven and hell on the principles of God’s righteousness.
